Weekend Crafts

A few months ago my grandmother found out that I like making crafts. As a result I got 3 boxes full of material and tons of ideas on different things I can make.

I have few ideas on how to use these scraps. They are small pieces which means it might take me a while to use all the material. I figured I'd share the things I've made to give you ideas on how to use those small pieces of material for fun things and it just shows it doesn't take much to make things look beautiful.

My first craft is a pincushion. I got a sewing machine last year and I just needed a pincushion. I made it up as I went although I did use this website as inspiration.

I also made little R a bag. She picked out the color and I just put it together. I figured she could use it for pretend play. When I finished I told little R we could put eggs in it. So as I went to find the plastic eggs. She took the liberty of putting all of the eggs in the fridge into her bag.... The casualties:  two. I guess toddlers are very literal.

Have a great week!

Hi everyone!

Sorry for the long break. Earlier this year we bought a house! And have since been enjoying our summer in our new city. So far we love it.
Toddler photography
We've had a lot of things to adjust to. Like having to mow the lawn.... growing up we didn't have a lawn, it was usually just concrete parking/walk ways!
It has been a wonderful whirlwind. We have 4 mature trees on our property and I love them. We get a ton of shade. Little R can spend all day outside and still be in the shade.

This summer has been full of fun activities: late night walks, 2 a.m. shopping trips, movies in the park and yummy shakes from a local fruit stand. So far we love living so close to the fruit highway in Utah.
We are so grateful for all the amazing people we've met since moving here. We have great neighbors and an awesome park just around the corner.
You can expect to see me here again next week! Have a great week!

What God would have us do...

Every morning I wake up with immense gratitude for this life I am privileged to live. As I start the day I always ask myself what my Heavenly Father wants me to do today? He knows me better then anyone else and He knows what will bring me the most joy in this life.
At times I forget and start to think about myself and about what I want to do today. And those days usually don't go very well because all my expectations crash to the ground.

It's hard being a stay at home mother or so we tell ourselves. We make to do lists and incorporate activities to make us feel normal. And we forget that we are mothers out of love... for our families. We are exactly where we are suppose to be. We can give our lives to Our Heavenly Father and He will help us though every little difficulty that occurs.
The love we feel for our children is amazing and the love we have for our spouse will carry us though. I show my family how much I love them when I clean my home and fill their bellies with yummy food.  Many people don't understand why anyone would stay home and do such mundane things when they could hire a maid and just eat out.
Our families need stay at home moms(or dads!) to make a home for them. A secure place for them. A loving environment. A house of prayer and a house of order. I believe we can have peace in our homes when we strive to be close to Our Heavenly Father.
I don't want to be home when it is a mess so why would my family. I want my home to be a refuge for my daughter and my husband.

So yes, being a mother is difficult but the benefits far out weigh the cost.

What does Heavenly Father want you to do today?

P.S. I know it isn't always possible to stay home but we can still make our house a home.

Happy Easter Weekend!

I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and this weekend we celebrate the resurrection of our Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. It is a wonderful time and age to learn from latter-day prophets.

Easter weekend is also our 185th semi-annual General Conference. Today and tomorrow I'll have the pleasure to listen to these great men and women. It is a wonderful thing to feel the spirit in our souls and the love that Heavenly Father has for each of us.

This morning I was reminded of something. Day to day we watch movies, t.v. , we read books, magazines and many other things from todays entertainment. And many of them encourage immoral behavior as normal. And I know it is not normal. The people that we see in so many of modern day entertainment are... in the minority.

There are millions of people in the world that believe in a Supreme Being. Those are the people that still have faith in marriages and in happy families. We want the fairy tale ending and I know that though commitment and a lot of help from Heavenly Father we can all be part of our own fairy tale. It may not always be perfect but we can have a wonderful person by our side that will inspire us to be better every day.

If you want to learn more here is a link to General Conference.

Messes are Okay

At the start of every day I always try to take some time to get ready for what lies ahead in a day with a toddler. I try to relax, exercise or just read scriptures so that I am better prepared to make good choices. Like many other mothers I'd like to go though my to-do list and accomplish so many things but usually the day doesn't go as I plan.

Instead I find a little girl that is full of demands(that never end), little R is still young and needs help with so many things. At times it would be nice to just feed, change and put those little rascals to bed. And I at least forget that I am her favorite person in the world. All she wants is to spend time with me.

Have you ever just spent time with a dear friend of yours? Isn't it great just to be with them even if they are just doing mundane things? We always seem to have more energy and time for that dear friend of ours.

What if we thought of our children like that? We would get up every morning and know we get to spend the whole day with our best friend! And you want to know something... that is how your kids see it. All they want to do is to spend time with you.

At times I make cleaning and completing my to-do list a priority but I've found that as long as I am not mindlessly watching t.v. or surfing online. I have time for so many things. Yeah, I might not have time to clean the whole bathroom but that's okay. Messes aren't the end of the world. At the end of the day I look around our home and believe me it isn't clean but I can look back on our day and know that I did all I was suppose to do.

I took care of the most precious thing that I have been given.

So stop feeling guilty about not having a spotless home and think of the joy you brought your child today.

We Are Pieces of Art

A few days ago I was talking with some friends about their many talents and it was amazing. I might not be an amazing baker but right next to me sat one. And another that can knit a gorgeous afghan. And an older women that can make amazing quilts. And others that reads large history books for fun. I felt so grateful for their talents.
I mentioned how I love quilts and a few of them said they didn't have the patience or that it was difficult for them because they wanted it to be perfect. The thing I love most about quilts are the imperfections.
Each little mistake shows the hard work that was put into it. The lines don't have to be perfectly straight and the pieces might not always a line but this piece of art that has been put together will keep your loved ones warm on cold nights. It will remind you that you can accomplish difficult things. And that just like you, the quilt isn't perfect but that it will always be loved.

And don't worry every time you make a quilt the amount of mistakes will decrease.

Being Present with Books!?

We are often told to be present in our child's life, that time goes quickly and you will miss those moments.
It is hard being present all the time. I always want to be doing something actively with my hands. So I usually read or watch Tv and am online. My little one is only 2 and I feel like kindergarden is so far off I don't always take advantage of the time I have with her.
I recently discovered a way to be more present and oddly enough it includes books. I think of life as a story coming straight from a book. I have experimented with thinking that way when I want to be present. I narrate all that is going on in my mind and think of what would make the story better. It sounds bizarre but that is how I think. It probably comes from reading to many books. :)

Have you ever had time with your spouse after work or on the weekend and you find yourself once again on your computers all but ignoring your other half? I have.
We care so much for the person we married but we don't always give them the time that is needed to make a wonderful relationship.
I applied this same idea to time with my husband and I must say it makes a huge difference. Sometimes I read stories about a couple sharing dinner and helping clean up. They are usually so willing to give to the person they are with. And by narrating our own story I put myself out there to do something nice for my better half and it changes the whole experience. I become in grossed in our story.

Give it a try.

PS. Just a little about me. I actually used the story of when we meet for an essay I had to do in college.

Keeping in Shape

Being active is very important to me. I, like many others, have struggled with my fitness. Around the holidays I noticed my weight slowly increasing yet again. I'd been exercising regularly and eating relatively well but it wasn't enough. I was sitting around more instead of going on walks. Part of that was definitely the colder weather.
I am determined to cultivate healthier habits. I definitely don't eat fruit and vegetables every day. As part of eating better I am looking for recipes that are delicious but have lots of veggies included. It's getting better. When we eat healthier I notice that we naturally want to be more active. I especially like to run around with my toddler. But if you feel sick all the time you just can't. I am also looking for healthier snacks that we all like.
In terms of exercise I try to do Zumba or Yoga at least every day, except Sunday. I also love adding in walks, hikes, bicycle rides, soccer, frisbee and many others. Once it warms up hopefully we can do those again.

This last week I've posted about my goals. I have many things I want to improve on and I want to share some with you. Photography is something I am also working on. All the pictures you see on the blog were taken by us.

Thanks for reading!

Crafty Toddler

As a stay at home mom I find it difficult to fill our time with things worth while. I feel like our days last forever.... Finding things to do that don't cost a ton is so difficult. And right now we kinda need some indoor activities(it's been so cold.)
I know toddlers learn a lot by playing but I, at times, have a hard time playing with her. So I've decided to include her in things I love doing so we can enjoy time together.

One of those things is board games. I love board games and little R is getting to the age that she can finally play the 3+ games. Yay!
We also cook a lot. She is always on a chair by the counter helping in any way she can(even if it is just making a mess.)
Though out the next year. I'll be posting some of the things we do together to give you ideas to become closer to your own children.

We made paint! It was a lot easier then I thought it would be. Of course this is toddler approved paint. We made it with 1/3 cup flour and 1/3 cup water. I decided to just put some of the paint on a paper plate and to add food coloring there so we could have more colors. It was great. She painted forever and I loved using this paint myself.

I have some left so we will definitely be doing this again. Just remember to seal the container properly.

Thanks for reading!

P.S. Instead of saving all your kids art projects. Just take a picture. I really want to frame the blue one some day.

Starting the Year Right

As one of my goals this year. I'll be doing more outfit posts.
It reminds me to take care of myself and I learn how to use my camera. These pictures were really fun to take. Little R was actually taking the pictures! She even got in front of the camera herself. We had a blast.

Thank you for reading!
